Federal Cannabis Act comes into effect

The government of B.C. has stated that Cannabis stores will be opened on 17 October. That is when the Federal Cannabis Act comes into effect. The local government in conjunction with cannabis consultants has carried out a survey that reveals that due to municipal rezoning and community consultation and approval of their shops,  it is likely to take up to 18 months before this can take place.

According to B.C’s realization framework, the B.C. Liquor Distribution Branch, as well as a website are the government warehouses where to get weed in Canada after October 17.  The only places confirmed to run in a month’s time will be the website and a single store of the government.

The province has already received applications of more than 100 interested parties. These applications must be vetted by local governments who will create special licenses for the cannabis stores. However, the applicants should not expect the process to be approved by 17 October. No store should be expected to built, stocked or stuffed by that day.

The Unknown Fate of Exiting Cannabis Shops

The grey-market dispensaries that are already selling cannabis in some cities are not sure what role they will play in this post-legalization. This is due to the fact that only one store will be legalized to operate on October 17.  This will be the only legal store where to get pot in Vancouver. The other one will be an online website. One of them cbdpot.ca x2

According to The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General, the grey-market dispensaries can apply for provisional licenses. However, those dispensary owners are confused on what they should do while waiting for approval of their applications.

Enforcement against those who operate illegal stores will increase as more legally operating stores will increase in number. Products and records from illegal operating stores will be seized without warrant by the safety unit. The safety unit will call the assistance of the police and be allowed to impose fines on the value of the cannabis seized or sold. The offenders will be convicted in court and face further fines and being jailed.
